Dr. Silja Majahalme leads Appleton Heart Institute’s women’s heart health initiative. From prevention to treatment, young women to the aged, Dr. Majahalme’s focused attention helps get the word out that heart disease is the number one killer of women in America today.
 
In addition to Dr. Majahalme’s extensive clinical research relating to long-term follow-up of hypertension patients, she is experienced in all aspects of cardiac care for both male and female patients including:

  • Cardiovascular risk factor modification
  • Lipid management
  • Transthoracic and transesophageal echo
  • Cardiac postoperative care
  • Cardiac catheterization
Dr. Majahalme received her degree in medicine from University of Kuopio, Finland. She completed her internship at Kanta-Häme Central Hospital, Finland, and her residency and fellowship at Tampere University Hospital, Finland. She was a research fellow and visiting professor at the Division of Hypertension at the University of Michigan. Dr. Majahalme also holds a Ph.D. for clinical research relating to long-term follow-up of hypertensive patients from Tampere University Hospital, Finland. 

Dr. Majahalme joined Appleton Cardiology Associates in 2003. She has a long-standing career in clinical cardiology, and, prior to moving to Appleton, was a consultant cardiologist and associate professor at University of Tampere, Finland. She is well published and has been asked to speak at cardiology conferences in Europe, the United States and China. She is board certified in Finland in internal medicine and cardiology and a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and an associate fellow of the American College of Cardiology. She is also board certified as a clinical hypertension specialist and board certified in comprehensive adult echocardiography.
