Dr. Robert L. Wilson is a leader in identifying quality initiatives to improve patient care, establishing clinical benchmarks and tracking progress toward continuous improvement.
Dr. Wilson’s clinical expertise lies in:
- Congestive heart failure
- Echocardiography
In fact, he performed the first biventricular pacemaker implantation in the region. Dr. Wilson has a particular interest in improving care for patients with congestive heart failure — the number one discharge diagnosis in the United States. As co-director of Appleton Heart Institute’s congestive heart failure clinic, Dr. Wilson understands that proper care can reduce the amount of time patients spend in the hospital.
Dr. Wilson completed his degree in medicine at the University of Iowa College of Medicine. His internship, residency and fellowship in cardiovascular diseases were all performed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. During his residency, he served as chief resident within the Department of Internal Medicine. In service to his country, Dr. Wilson worked with the U.S. Public Health Service for two years as a medical officer.
Dr. Wilson joined Appleton Heart Institute in 1985 and maintains a full-time clinical practice in cardiology. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases, and the American Board of Echocardiography. He serves as Director of Echocardiography for Appleton Medical Center and Appleton Cardiology Associates.
