Dr. Robert J. Ferrante joined Appleton Heart Institute in 2002. With specialized training in surgical procedures of the heart and lungs, his expertise rounds out a full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgical care offered at Appleton Heart Institute. Dr. Ferrante is medical director for cardiovascular surgery and a member of the Appleton Heart Institute Leadership Council.
With specialized training in state-of-the-art thoracic surgery, Dr. Ferrante is committed to the diagnosis and care of patients with diseases of the chest.

Dr. Ferrante is leading the way in noninvasive surgical procedures by utilizing video-assisted technology to examine the chest cavity from within and to perform diagnostic and noninvasive surgical procedures. This technology allows surgeons to perform many operations that formerly required open large-incision thoracotomy and provides patients with an alternative that results in less pain, less risk and a shorter hospital stay.
Dr. Ferrante received his degree in medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he also completed his internship in general surgery. His residency, fellowship and teaching fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery were performed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
